Vehicle details

Make VW Golf
Variant 3 door Hatchback Manual
Engine 2.0 Petrol
Trim  GTI
Year/Plate  2005 05
Mileage 57,000

Valuation details

Excellent condition     £9520
Average condition     £8580
Below average condition £7640
Retail     £11400
Cost new     £19797

This is from Glasses guide.
As you can see a VW dealer would retail at £11400, plus maybe another £600 for the added spec, so I would expect to see it on a forecourt for around £11995.

More importantly, the trade in value is what counts. If the car is in good nick, with the extras, I would be looking at a trade in value of around £9500.

Therefore, if you can get the car for £10K, you are close to buying it at book money - it just means if you decided to get rid in a few months, you wont lose much! Not that you will, the GTI is a fantastic car!!!!

Hope this helps,

Andy

hiya mate.. i got my 06 plate gti about six weeks ago and i love it..:) ( best car ever )  i might of paid a little over the odds but its the one i wanted and to me thats all that matters really... init?. it had 27k on the clock auto wipers lights, tyre peasure monitor, ipod connection etc etc.. in the end i paid 13300 with a three year warranty, might be a little high but like i said before if its the car you want get it... just my opinion of course, good hunting :)

I got my 55 plate a couple of months ago with the same miles and same spec + sat nav, but the 17" alloys (which I actually prefer), for less than 9k - which is less than trade - just right place right time and knowing the seller... but looking around 10-11k for that spec was what they were on Autotrader and Pistonheads. I test drove a newer one with less miles at a dealership up for 14k! It was in far worse nick.

Its a great car though, I'd be happy to pay over the odds (whatever that may be), to secure one with the right spec thats in tip top condition. Don't be put off with miles, if its well serviced and looked after - its almost irrelevant.

(p.s im looking to get rid of the monza's on my car if anyone is interested, they were sold to me by a friend who upgraded to 18's and i dont want my car to look like a gti replica as i had the bumper fitted yesterday)

I'd say with those options like the xenons etc i would go for it if you can get them down closer to 10K.As long as its what you want.
As you say haggle money off using excuses such as cambelt etc.

Cheers for the replies all!

It's sold  anyway  missed that one.

Not overly worried, not into rushing into buying something, would rather wait it out for the right one to crop up at the right price.

looking for leather, zenons, dual climate, 3 door, manual as a basic, anything else is a bonus. Want to try and keep as close too £10k as possible. Got the loan agreement confirmed so money is sorted.
Not that fussed by mileage anything up to 70k as i only do 3k a year in the car so in a few years it will be average again  :smug:

If you see anything gimme a shout!

Been a bit puzzled by insurance though, getting qouted £815 from my current insurer which i thought was a little high. (25yo with 24 yo GF as named driver, 4 yrs Ncb no points or accident's, parked on driveway overnight)

Only paying £540 for my mk4 230bhp all mod's declared

Anyone my age get a good quote, if so where from!?

Cheers, Sam

i've heard swiftcover are doing the business at the moment, not sure what they are like though? I recently came from a mk4 1.8t to the mk5 gti, trust me, you won't be able to wipe the grin of your face!

I'm 26, 3 years ncb, 9k miles a year parked on a city centre street with my 26 yo g/f with only 2 years driving experience...it was just under £500 with admiral but I think location plays a big part.

The other half has just got herself a 106 and we went for the admiral multicar insurance...the gti side of the insurance came down to £380 a year with the pug costing £220    Bloody good value if you have more than one car!
