This is the same as mine.  Has not always made the noise though, so I know it is not normal.  I am now on 76k with the noise starting at about 60k.  It hasn't got any worse and performance hasn't been affected.  Still, after saying that, something is wrong.  I have been looking for an answer to this for about 8 months, mainly on the American forums with no joy.  I think this is to do with the fact that the Americans never got the AXX engine.  I am starting to think it is only affecting this engine code.  It would be good to know if any parts in the cam chain/cover area have been superseded on the later engine codes.

Hasn't this unexpected noise got something to do with the injectors?

Do other VAG platforms using the 2.0T FSI engine such as Skoda/Seat/Audi, also have this noise?

No RR, you can still hear them as well.  As for other VAG platforms, not sure on which ones use the AXX engine.
Would be good to know.  The noise is coming from the cam chain cover area ONLY when warm.  You can hear the noise in the cabin more because the sound of the injectors and purge valve are quiet when sat inside the car.

I notice your sig says : - "BSH speedshop PCV stage 2 fix but with Forge catch can" - I don't want to hijack this thread so do you have a link to another thread on the subject please?

Not done a write up RR (should do) but here is one of the threads. (page 2)

I should add that the main reason I changed the PCV system is to see whether that was the reason for my noisey engine.  Same thing with the HPFP.  But no

Out of interest is this constant or does it disappear when the clutch is pressed? Seems as though I'm getting a similar sounding issue when ever the car is in neutral and idling, once pressed it fads away until its engaged again in neutral.

Luke

Mine is a dsg so no clutch. Oddly the engine doesn't tick when its cold, only when its warm. Its only when stationary that i can hear it and inside the car more than outside. The car is 100% perfect other than this noise, i hope it is normal for the engine.

Sounds very similar to mine, almost like a rattle/ knocking. Mine's got to go in anyway to have the A/C fixed as thats gone duff so I'll get the mechanic to sit inside the car and wait him to tell me there's nothing wrong . Sounds as though its coming directly from behind the bulkhead as well rather than someone has suggested it could be the fuel lines.

The DSG has a clutch

How do you think it works otherwise? Magic

Yes i know that  but the question was "does it do it when the clutch is pressed" seeing that there is no clutch pedal i have no way of knowing, but it does it at slow speed ie when the road noise doesnt overcome the sound of te ticking and when stationary....

Leave it in D while parked with foot on the brake then put it in N and see if its louder.
