Over Flowing Fuel Tank?
« on: 02 May 2009, 09:00 »
Hi all,

I have a slight issue when fuelling up at the petrol station....

Put the nozzle in, start filling up and when it clicks off for the FIRST time there's all petrol pissing out underneath the car!!

Now i know the tanks have a breather to allow air out but why on the first click does it pour out?

Cars i've had in the past i've been able to brim to the filler cap and they've been fine.... :o/

Very odd....

Any help or advice would be tops :)
Cheers,

Paul.

I don't think you can brim them to the cap as the breather acts as the overflow.

Thats not what i'm trying to do tho.....

Just a normal fill up, fuel shut off kicks in on the trigger and without releasing any more fuel into the tank its pouring out from underneath and its prob no where near the mouth of the filler.
Cheers,

Paul.

sometimes mine clicks as soon as i start filling it up. I just reposition the hose and try again. Works for me, not sure if its the solution for you...

My first job ever was at a petrol station as an attendant.  It was a rural petrol station so I had to fill the cars up.  You have a 'burper'.  I think your breather is probably blocked and is causing an air lock / syphon effect.

All maestro vans (the old bt vans) were notorious for doing this and could happily burp up half a tank of fuel all over your shoes
