Removed My Side Skirts Today and Found...
« on: 01 May 2009, 17:57 »
Nice clean paint.

No rust, no bubbles, no dints, no dents. My car is officially rust free, except for the door which is being replace in a week on monday in the body shop.

None of the usual places, all rust free. OOTZ!!

Not going to refit my side skirts, looks a lot better without them, totally non-gti and makes it stand out a bit more. But looks higher... Might have to wind the back down.

Pics to follow but atm i have only picked the glue of one side before i retreated inside as i got very bored! haha

Not really mate, didnt want to be cocky but i know there is no rust underneath it, and there wasnt when i removed the arches etc, so didnt think there would be, but they are the worst bit for it.

Im over the moon now, as when it comes out the of the spray it will be a Mk3 that defies the slaughter of them being rusty old heaps. lol

That was the drivers door mate. For sum reason the paint was crap on it and it got surface rust.

except for the door which is being replace in a week on monday in the body shop.

But yeah, thats just a door mate! Changed in a week. lol.

yeah mine has no rust at all either, non, zip, nada haha, they are not as bad as mk 2's for rust, but the later mk 3's are the weak link... and the ones that have helped give the mk 3 this tag unfortunatly

mike, the doors on the later cars (with them supposidly galvernised) have no wax stuff on the innards like mine (like candle wax) hence why the later doors rust inside out, what u wanna do is buy some propper wax oil in the big tin, brush on, and paint it all on the inside of the lower doors ansd rear qtr, i did mine even though it has the factors candle wax stuff, also cut down road noise ALOT

Yeah mate, i plan to do this next month. Going to strip the interior out, and do inside all of the doors, quarters, floor pan, boot etc etc. Protect it, seal it, sound proof it. And also underseal it too.

Too keep it as it is now.

The new door i have is fine, so must be an early spec door i suppose.
