G60 into KR conversion....Much work????
« on: 25 April 2009, 20:00 »
Was thinking of doing this conversion on my 90 spec GTi next year some time. Is it much work, regarding loom work and stuff?

G60 engine\parts are expensive and hard to find nowadays, given the price and frequency of charger rebuilds - seems like a bizarre conversion to go for given what else is available.

I'd be more interested in a slightly tuned up ABF, that could see 170-200bhp. It doesn't quite have the same charm or prestige as the G60, but is a pretty sensible option.

For big power there's the 1.8T, for the sound there's a VR6 (or supercharged ;) )

I looked into the g60 route a few years back and came to the same conclusion as Ben.... you can get alot more for your money elsewhere and not have to rebuild a charger every not so many miles (althought I do love the g60 whine when its going).

I will say after having a mk2 1.8t they go like sh!te of a shovel, but they are souless next to a mk2 vr6 and all that noise.

I totally understand what you're saying regarding bang for buck and all that. I'm just so in love with the charger whine!!!!

Tighten your alternator belt so that the bearings start to squeel. Cheaper

Mine doesn't whine! :undecided: Or perhaps I can't hear it under the sound of the exhaust. And yes it does work. I know that because  trounced 3 new Scirroco 2.0 TSI's today!

Do you intend to do a full conversion, or build a 16v with a G Lader compressor?

you might need the fusebox out of a G60 or a Digi powered 8v Gti. but pretty straight forward, and youll never get tired of the noise, even if it does eat your money
