Starter Solenoid?

Sometimes get a buzzzz sound when starting. Lasts 2 seconds at most and is fairly high pitched.

I'm guessing this is the solenoid not releasing fast enough, or sticking?

Confirmation please and how long do ya think before I need a new starter?

Mine does the same, you can take it off and clean it up which should cure the problem.

My girlfirends 96 polo has had the same problem since she bought it over 2 years ago. Still starts first time though although that noise is a little annoying. Im gona hold out until it fails completley before I change it.

you mean after it has fired up?  oif so yewah does sound like it. had same issue on mine so i swapped the starter with a spare i had, sorted it :)
