Hi can you please tell me whats the biggest wheels I can fit to my G reg Cabriolet or any suggestions as to what would look good on it many thanks friends .....

You should be able to get away with 17s, but in my opinion I think 15s are as big as you should go.

If you want my opinion, then dont go big - go Small
I have 14" on mine and they look so much better then the 17" I used to have.

Are they 15's on there at the moment ? Again, my opinion but a 40mm drop would be enough but if you want it lower go for 60mm.

17's will rub if your fully loaded up. you can mod the arches a little without making a cosmetic difference but the lowering of the car will be restricted. It's down style and choice, mine came with 17's and i cant imagine it now on anything smaller, it is high off the ground but its no higher than a stock cab. 17's are hard so dont get a strut brace i removed the one that was on mine as it was awful over even the smallest bumps.

I dont intend mucking around with the suspension for some time to come, i have seen standard cabs on 14 inch without lowering and i dont like them. lowering them on small wheels makes a big difference in appearance.

17's are such a bad idea on a mk1.  In my opinion the mk1 is a drivers car, mk1's hate 17's.  They feel horrible, unsafe, and without sounding too harsh for people who have got them on a mk1, they don't look right at all.  It can't be lowered enough to look even ok so it ends up lookin like a bling off-roader, who wants a lanky car?  A mk1 lowered on a firm 40-60mm drop, sitting on 14's (15's max) is the best.  It looks right, it still looks well ard and you can still drive it like u stole it!  Adam's is a prime example of what looks best.

I thought I would loath my cab on anything less than 17's, but was prepared to give it a go, and think it has never looked better. But! and it is a big BUT - it is totally impractical for more than 2 people, it will pick up any rut in the road and track it, and every journey involves great considation because of speedbumps.
15's would be a great everyday practical wheel, and suit the cab too. You can still get it looking low, but it wouldn't have that extra 1/2" crucial drop that you get on the 14's
You are going to get a higher top speed on 17's but it will take a while to haul itself up there, with 14's the take off improves but the top end suffers (110 MPH - meusered on GPS)
There are so many factors to consider, but at the end of the day, it is really down to what you feel comfortable with and are prepared to put up with.
