Rough Prices
« on: 21 April 2009, 14:22 »

Can anyone give me an estimate, how much these jobs are going to cost as i'll soon be ringing a few vw specialists and normal garages to have the work done.

Both front Wishbones inc ball joint

Alternator pulley & belt

NSF CV gaitor

Cheers

Cheers Rhyso, are you fitting them yourself? is it easy? a mate seemed to think they were then another mate said you need to pop the ball joint out which is a pain

got one of my engineers fitting them FOC  :lipsrsealed:  he's an ex-Land Rover fitter - he had a quick look yesterday and the only real problem he sees is that the drive shaft is in the way of the main ball joint nut

i'll update later as he normally finds a way around such problems :afro:

you can leave the ball joints in but it depends how good your existing ones are

Ha, I need all those above doing  :lipsrsealed:

The belt takes 10 mins, can you change the pulley  :undecided: or do you have to buy a new alternator?

CV gaitor about an hour

Wishbone about the same thats with coffee breaks aswell

well i've had one side done

left the original ball joint as Alan said it was in top condition! Really surprised considering the car has 98K on it!!

took him about half an hour - other side will be fitted tomorrow followed by tracking so i then hopefully give a full report

I thought about doing it myself, but not sure how to remove the pulley, and then tighten the belt, i'm sure there will be a tensioner but damned if i can find it
