about ready to set fire to my golf grrrrrrr.

right got an 8v gti h plate digfant. swap gearboxes yesterday while it was in the air i got it running and was fine it ran ont he button turned it off got everything back together and got it on the ground tried to start it again and nothing just a clunk and it was flooded took plugs out and turned over petrol all over the place (misses not to happy)  read some post on here and from what i read it pointed to a fried ecu. so last night took a trip to coventry to pick up another one tried my ecu on the guys car and it worked fine so swapped it for his just to be on safe side fuel pump is constantly on but it has always been like that since ive had the car and ive had no problems until i changed gearbox. got home and battery was flat !!! so charged it. got up this morning and decided to have a go at running the car. GREAT fired up after a while chugging abit at the start but ran smoothly after a few revs thought great working job sorted tried reverse fine need to set up the linkage but all looked good so far or so i thought. took the key out of ignition and the car didnt turn off just kept running. im getting fed up this it now and im becoming clueless any  one now what the hell this could be ? ive clean all the earths and have good contact on all of them im lost now.

ok a little update look in the fuse box and on the number 67 relay was a wire bridging two of the pins ive noticed this b4 but ever time i took the wire away car didnt run but now ive removed it and slapped the relay a few times i no longer need that wire car starts and turns off ok now.
next question is this is the number 18 or 19 fuse for the feul pump ? if so ive taken these out aswell and the car runs doesnt seem to want to run out of fuel as it should do if pump is dissconnected or if ya done fuel cut as ya would on an alarm. also when it flooded would fuel have got into the sump and could the car be running on this instead of whats spose to be coming form the tank also after a few minutes of running the low oil pressure buzzer comes on ?

im hoping some of the gurus on her can help me with this im stumped ive used the search engine on here too but still with no joy.

fuse & relay locations are inm the fusebox faq, but its the bottom right slot :)
im thinking the car running on may be down to a duff ignition switch, once its running if the problem happens again pull the black wires from the terminal 15 side of the coil, if the car cuts out then its the ign switch, or something is jumping the terminal 15 (ignition live) circuit in the fusebox, perhaps something to do with that jumper wire you found?

as i said i took that jumper wire out now and it starts and turns off fine where b4 with the old ecu it didnt want to know was dead without that wire. so im thinking i may have sort that little problem. think i just need to change oil now and see how that goes

yeah deffo worth doing.
it prob was the jumper wire, if you push em in too far stranghe things happen!  On my GTI when I used a jumper wire on the pump to check the pressure I pushed it in a bit far and the engine tried to turn over on the starter

right then i think ive sorted it took a slow day on the car today and just enjoyed the weather wasnt going at it like i did yesterday. anyway got the car on level ground removed all earths and connections and did a good clean up of them all then pulled dipstick out and it stank of fuel not good so decided to drain the sump left it standing for a good couple of hours while it drained probably overkill but wasnt in a rush. the oil that was in there was extremly running so i knew something wasnt right and my fuel gauge was down it was on quarter of a tank now its in the red !!!!! must have been running on the oil and feul mixture because like i said id already took the fuse out for the fuel pump and when i fired it up after putting more oil in it chugged out of fuel within a few minutes so thats why i didnt have a lot of oil in there then. its still weird tho because for as long as i can remember if i sat there with ignition on i could hear the fuel pump going now it just primes and stops still runs tho so im not to worried. next on the list is setting linkage up and get new gearbox oil and take for a test drive. so fingers crossed im ok now we shall see
