Hesitation at 2500 RPM
« on: 20 April 2009, 08:43 »
When i accelerate up through the gears at about 2500 RPM there is a noticable hesitation as if the cars not getting enough fuel (or the timing is slightly out) it will drive through this and when it gets to about 3000 RPM it feels fine and pulls as it should.
Seems noticable mainly in 2nd & 3rd,
Anyone got any ideas? Its not to much of an issue as it drives through but it just a little niggle that i would like to correct

ECU relay!

Always a first thing to do IMO as they are so cheap (£12) then if that dont fix it the next steps are either more fiddly or more expensive!

Right symptoms seem to be getting worse, now there appears to be hesitation across the range, starting almost spluttering this morning at 70MPH  it occasionally clears but is still evident.
ANyone got the part number for the ECu relay as i will try this 1st

Dont need a part number! Just go to a main dealer and ask for it! I'll be surprised they dont have one in stock as its very popular part!

Have you checked the dizzy cap and rotor?

Before shelling out any cash do you have a multimeter. I had a similair hesitation, which turned out to be increased resistance in an HT lead.

Someone correct me but I think they are made of some form of carbon which brakes down over time.

When you test them the problem lead will be really obvious, with a much higher resistance than the others.. I didnt beleive it at the time either but replacing the dodgy lead got rid of the hesitation..

unplug the Air Flow Meter and see if it still happens.
