Adding to the resale value?
« on: 16 April 2009, 01:30 »
Hi All,

MK3 Golf CL Automatic. (Don't laugh it was my first ever car bought for £675 and has served me very well)

Now getting a bit fed up with 75 horses (sick ones at that). It's powerful enough to get up steep hills in Wales without a problem, but embarrassing when I floor it on the slip road, get excited about the noise and then get overtaken by 2 nuns in a Micra.

Since ownership, I've performed a full service, changed the timing belt, added black rims (cheap from Halford but look presentable), fixed the aerial (made it electric with an internal switch), fitted keyless entry/alarm/remote start* (rs disabled for insurance but can be reenabled), changed both rear bearings, resprayed the bumpers making them black again, fitted a 10inch sub to the parcel shelf and added an ipod/cd/stereo. I'll wait until after the MOT so I can add that to the value. What else do you suggest I do to increase the value? Everything I've not mentioned is stock.

The paintwork isn't perfect and there is a long but shallow dent spanning from the passenger door, right through to the wing (that was me on one of my first drives). I've decided that these will cost more to repair than the value it will add. Instead I sanded and sprayed the chipped paint to protect from rust, it's not perfect but the metal is protected.

The car has been well looked after by previous owners so I want to sell it on in better condition than I bought it as a sign of respect to a 13 yr old reliable car :)

Sorry chap but you're not gonna get much back from it, compared to what you paid for it, CLs, GLs, and most other models don't fetch much anymore, even GTIs are struggling. The best you can do is just make it look as presentable as possible.

That dent isn't going to help matters mind you.
