Nice car, but lose the Edition 30 badge. If it's a not a genuine Ed30, don't badge it as one. Sorry, but badging cars as something they are not is a real pet peeve of mine.

It looks like one, has the same turbo and 330bhp! I know what you are saying but its not like a 1.4 dressed and badged as a gti/R32. That really peeves me off (sadly lol)

thanks for the nice compliments...i put on the ed30 badge as the motor is ed30 spec...same like i have the 20th AE gti badges on the rear...should i remove that cause its not a 20th AE gti?...we did not get ed30 in sa and people will not know what an ed30 gti is...the car is OEM+...

list of mods as requested
R32 rear section with custom made tailpipes
Experience DP
K04
S3 DV relocation
Eurojet PCV
WOTBOX
Forge CAI
Forge DV
S3 Injectors
Autotech HPFP
Aquamist programmable W/I
Powerflex bushes and mounts
H&R coils

lol!

South African Dealerships look at you funny when you say edition 30... Nevermind the Pirelli.. When I asked if they had Pirelli GTi's the guy took me to the workshop and showed me a tyre  :lipsrsealed:

Besides... Funny how everyone complains that he badged it as an ED30 but nobody has issues with those that take an edition 30 and change the styling, seats and engine parts... Its a bit hypocritical as far as Im concerned.

Very nice car - but I also think the badge should go.  Not for the same reasons as the others though.  I just think it takes away from the look of the rear of the car.  I prefer the cleaner look of the rear with just the GTI badge.  Even if I had a ED30, I would remove the ED30 badge.  I don't care what people think it is - just as long as the car looks as cool and slick as it can.  But ETTO as always.

Somebody said on here before that the ED30 badge looks too like the Ford TDCI badge, and I think that's really true!

Well that's something completely different and not at all hypocritical. Those people are not trying to make their car look like something else and then badge it as if it's the real deal.

If I had the old V8 S4 and got the engine tuned up to 400bhp+, and put an RS4 exhaust on it with the RS4 body kit, would it be ok for me to re-badge it as an RS4? I don't think so.

Is there a moral code in car modification? :D

Modification is all about making something look better than it really is, I think putting a badge on a car describing it as something else is a bit silly - agreed, but not something to get upset about.

I unfortunately dont understand how that is different?

You have bought was is "classified" as a limited edition car and surely if its a special edition you shouldnt be changing things on it? Some people have sold the pescaras. Some have changed the rear ends to .:R32. Some have ripped out the seats and replaced them. When they sell these cars they will not be original limited edition. Therefore they shouldnt count as limited edition vehicles. Would you rip apart an original MK1 and change it completely? No you wouldnt (Unless restoring it). So then why is it acceptable to change things on an edition 30?

And yet nobody fusses when people change bonnets, exhausts and the like... But when someone puts a badge (You can even buy the placque from a known supplier now) that is readily available online onto a GTi that is more edition 30 like than most of the modded edition 30's on here everyone throws their toys out of their cots?

In essence you guys are complaing that he is branding his car as something that its not. Well when the ED30 was launched they said it will have colour coded bumpers, pescaras etc etc. When you change the pescaras on an edition 30. You rebrand the car. Its all the same thing.

If anything this guys car is more limited than the edition 30 is as its the ONLY GTi of its kind in South Africa. And then of course you dont know why he has the badge. Perhaps edition 30 relates to the fact that his GTi has over 300hp? There are not a lot of GTi's in SA that have this.... Why do certain members of this forum judge so quickly?

Im not getting upset because he stuck a badge on his car. Personally I couldnt care. Its how trigger happy people are on this forum to judge and how you guys get so twitchy in your ultra limited, ultra cool and for those that want bigger heads I mention again the word "limited" golfs.

Im done ranting now

He could badge is as a Ferrari if he likes.

Given he basically has an ed30 under the skin as well as looking like one - whats the problem?  He doesn't have a plaque of course but I'm sure and sign writer could manage that

As Micsta says, given that the ed30 doesn't exist in SA it really is a non issue.
