Clocks stopped working
« on: 27 July 2004, 12:49 »
My speedo and milage have stopped working, but my rev counter is working fine, also the petrol consuption and milage on the MFA, don't registra either, any advice apart from checking each end of the speedo cable?

Also how is the rev counter worked? from the air line that comes into the clocks?

rev counter by the coil i think.

Speedo has maybe come loose behind the clocks?

reset the clocks by the fuse or disconnect the battery?

Where is the fuse for the clocks? it is not listed on the fuse cover!

I think it's the second one in from the right. Pull it out and if the dash clock goes off you've got the right one.

Well i took off the lower kick panel and disconected the clocks and re connected them cause i ould not find the fuse, i also stuck my hand up and could just feel the speedo cable and it seemed fine, so it's not that.

The other end in the engine bay seems solid, so either one of the ends has worn completelly or the clocks are knackered, any other ideas before I take the dash off again?

Alos how much is a new set of clocks and do you have to get a certificate from the dealers to record the milage?

Cheers

undo the speedo cable at the gearbox end and make sure the little drive (gear cog) is still on the end fo the cable

if it aint then its dropped of and been munched up in the gearbox - not to worry though as its only cheap plastic

cheap enough to replace also from vag - just tell them you need the red speedo cable drive

yep its just that one bolt where the speedo cable goes in

when you get the bolt off DONT yank it out as the cog is only held on by a little circlip on the end of the cable!! just remove it gently gently
