Mk3 8v GTI airbox alternative - one that fits?
« on: 13 April 2009, 19:37 »
Hi,

I stupidly bought an 8v MK3 airbox thinking it'd go into our MK2 with a bit of fettling.  Paid £30 for the bloody thing (pipes and all).  Turns out it won't even get close to fitting.  Can I ask what airbox people have used with a MK3 2E engine conversion in the MK2 engine bay?  I hate the cone filter and it's only zip-tied on.

Cheers

Golf2 GTI airbox?

Possibly, if the airflow meter is different to the Golf2 unit and the Golf2 airbox won't fit then go find a 2.0 8V Toledo - it's Golf2 chassis.  DannyP is running the ABF airbox in his Golf2 with no issues, so the 8V airbox should fit OK.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

2e afm is the same as a mk2 pb one, so use a mk2 airbox with a rubber pipe long enough to reach

Cheers, how can I incorporate the MK3 MAF(?) sensor that's housed on the metal casting into the MK2 setup?

If you mean the metal thing on my airbox here:

thats an air flow meter, as I say the MK3 2e one is the same as the MK2 PB, so it bolts right onto a MK2 PB airbox.
