the 20v 1.8t is the easiest conversion (as there's lots of specialists and parts avalible), then again I wouldn't turbo the 2.0 8 or 16v as both would require some substantial head, piston work for reliability.

my fave would be a properly supercharged 8v as the low down torque would be   ok so 160-190bhp (depending on charger, pulley and chip) isn't much but diesel ammounts of torque would be fun without the soot or noise!
(the yanks are running around 220bhp with engine work......16v killer )

buy a diesel?
but with a diesel you leave soot trail and you sound like a tractor
cant beat the sound of a whining supercharger

have you driven a mk4 GTI TDI or GTTDI? 115/130/150 bhp?

the 115's are quick but the 130's have monstrous bottom end torque. very quick off the mark. cant commenton the 150's as never driven one but based on the 130 alone id recommend them

edit: still prefer the idea of a supercharged 8v though

supercharging a mk2 is like giving an 85 year old man a pair of nike trainers and a bottle of lucozade. It just aint gonna go right.

lol

i doubt the internals between the mk2 and mk3 engines vary that much. same materials, different bore/stroke etc. obviously i wouldnt dare try charging my 246k mk2 engine  :lipsrsealed:
