Will this give me extra BHP

This might sound totally stupid im not sure..

My idea is to install a intercooler to cool the air going into the air intake.

I know the idea works when you have a turbo and want to cool the air coming from that but will it increase the bhp when its just chilling the standard intake air?

The cars a mk3 golf gti 8v

There was a thread on this the other day. It won't get it any colder then the outside ambient temperature.

If anything it would make things worse, you'd just be giving the engine one more obstruction to the inlet vacuum.

Reason for an IC is because when you compress air - it gets hot, hot air is less dense, less air per cc, less fuel, less fuel and air, crappier the combustion, slower the car. An IC is to cool the air to, at best, the ambient temp.

Its a nice idea,  would look nice with a big front mount intercooler sat under the bumper but sadly when it comes to cooling turbo air its bringing it from hot to warm,  rarther than cool to cooler.
