VR6 lump into Mk1 golf
« on: 14 July 2004, 13:42 »
Hi all,

I'm starting to get the mad idea of putting a VR6 engine, loom and dashboard into a Mk1 Golf cab, my next project for the winter period. I have no idea of what is involved in this and what issues I may face, so I am looking for a bit of back ground information first from anyone how knows anything on this massive job.

I'm also not sure on what VR6 lump is best to go for either, that being from later model golf's or a Corrado, again any help is most appreciated.

Thks.  :)

i only know of one  cab with a vr6, it was in one of the golf mags a couple of months back.  everyone tells me its not worth doing cos the engine is too heavy,  but its still one of my favourite dreams.  to be honest im thinking the g60 conversion would be a better option. seen a few supercharged cabs now. they do go some  8)

pretty sure the mark 3 dash wont fit in a mark 1 without some serious fabricating.  if i was in that position id go for a polo or lupo dash to be honest.  will suit the mark 1 better in my opinion  ;)

Corrado is bigger i think 2.9 as against 2.8 from a Golf. both i would have thought a bit scarse.

The VR6 is a fantastic engine and I would love to stick one in the mk1..........but everyone who is 'in the know' says its a bad idea..........too heavy ???

1.8T is the popular one to go for at the moment ;)
