VagCom Not working, help please

Hi, i recenty bought a cable for vagcom version 409.1

for my golf gti 8v and was just curious to see if i had any problems that i was unaware of.

have i bought the correct lead?

when i click scan it seems to search for a connection for ages, anybody know what i am doing wrong here?

that one should work, have you done the test bit to check the cable is recognised?  if so make sure ignition is on, and the led on the cable lights up when you plug it into car

That's the same one i have.

Vista or XP?

You may have to change the com port the USB is using...

With Vista make sure you are a system administrator for a start and come back here if it still doesn't work!

yeah i am the admin on my laptop and i have to allow the programe before i can use it, when i scan it seems to try lots of different connections but dosent seem to scan my car just seems asif its looking for my car first

You probably need to change the comm port that the usb driver is using.

If you know your way around it will be in device manager.  If not then right click on my computer and go to properties (then i think it's system).

If you can't find it i can post some instructions tomorrow (my vista laptop is at work and i can't remember off the top of my head!).

im in the car with the laptop the now, i can just get an internet signal  lol, it seems to go through alot of adresses an tries again, then when i went to select module control i went to one of them, (instruments) and it said no response from controller, does that mean that i havent got the usb cable properly connected to the car or does it mean i need to set it up properly?

the wee blue led is on at the bit it connects to the car, cheers

try engine, could be the other ones arnt present in your motor, but engine should always be there. Oh and ABS and Airbag if fitted

you also need it set on xp sp2 compatability...409.1 is not vista ready
