Electric sunroof-Factory option?
« on: 19 February 2009, 22:32 »
Hiya,i'm collecting my second Mk2 tomorrow,a white 3-door 16v with 82k genuine miles. It's one of the very last(on a K reg.) and has an electric sunroof. This was a surprise to me as i didn't know it was an option at the time.Could anyone confirm this?I wondered if it's an aftermarket addition. The switch is on the dash.

My J reg 16v has an electric sunroof as a factory option so I guess yours is too.

not a factory option, its an aftermarket accessory offered by VW dealers back in the day.  there are a few different types, but they're all equally ugly

Sunroofs, ugly....that's down to personal taste.
Personally, I think sunroofs, like many 'improvements' on modern cars are just another source of problems and weight. Keep it simple!
But that's just my 'outdated' opinion!!

I dont mean the sunroof, i mean the electric motor cover/switch.  Some are fantastically ugly, my favourite is the one with the wood trim

Is it possible to make it tilt as well as slide?

I'm sure I have seen Mk2's with tilted sunroofs. There must be a mechanism from another VAG model that can be made to fit. Audi 80/90 maybe?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

^^On that sunroof motor i had problems with the micro switches and the motor would go into spaz mode so i binned the switches.

Gotta thank RJ for the link on the motor.

Now running a vw kit. Just as simple
:)

dunno why yours went spazzo, mine is working perfectly with the microswitches, maybe the motor got out of sync with the roof?  also worth remembering the motor is designed to be used with a tilt & slide roof, so you gotta make sure you keep it in the 'slide' part, if that makes sence?
