My 8v was quite happy to run on supermarket fuel.

Not tried high octane in my 16v. It only had fumes in it when I picked it up, and the nearest filling station only had 95 octane. I put £20 in and am still using that.

Optimax every time. Remember when it was £1.30 a litre not so long ago. Seems bonkers really, good job it's come down some.

We were paying £1.36 for diesel a while back. It cost me £84 to fill my Passat once
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Recently my 8v has been going hot and cold, sometimes it's rapid and pulls well, smooth through the gears and gives me confidence, yet somtimes it holds back, put my foot down and im rocking back and forward like I'm on a moped trying to get it to actully move lol, it seems to run better on a full tank, but i was wondering whether this was possibly the problem?

Over the years, the bottom of your fuel tank collects all sorts of crap, and if you let the fuel level go down too low, the pumps suck up all the crap and tries to feed it to your engine. But the filters get in the way and restrict the flow of fuel, so you end up with fuel starvation. Try changing the fuel filters.

this kinda crap makes me laugh. as if anyone can genuinely say they feel/ notice the differance between supermarket or Bp/shell equivalent.

like DPB said change ya filters and save some cash buying the cheaper gear it wont do your car any harm.

Bit strange really, but supermarket fuel is sh!tte!

Fuel is the same well it is in the south west. I work for one company. BP, Esso and Tesco in the south west all come from the same refinary and streight into the tankers.

Ok ASDA do get it from some sh!te places.

The cars recently had a full service, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm. Are there any kind of fuel filters in the tank, or attached to the pump in any way? Just as a precaution, would it cause problems if the fuel filter was the wrong way round, and in which direction should the flow indicator be, towards the front or back. Thanks
