Just nailed an R32
« on: 14 February 2009, 15:25 »
Driving back  from a mates house today and noticed a silver R32 in my rear view mirror approaching very quickly.  We were on a single lane of traffic with a small stretch of dual carriageway a few miles ahead.  Took my time to make sure it wasn't the plod as they are known to drive R32s were I'm from. Young guy with what looked liked his girlfriend with him.

Approaching the carriageway with no traffic in front of me, he was right up my a**e and obviously wanting to pass.  I stayed in the inside lane and he took the outside. No contest!  I couldn't believe how much quicker I was.  Back into a single lane of traffic and another dual carriageway about 2 miles further on. Same thing again.  He tried to overtake on the outside lane, but was left behind.

I love my GTI!  I was always unsure how I would fair against one but am chuffed to bits.  I still think the R32 is a fantastic car with probably one of the best noises I have ever heard.  I suppose I have got used to the power but I didn't realise how quick this car is.

....Exactly! I was about to post that the R32 driver probably had more sense than to start a willie-waving contest.

Well... its pretty obvious when an R32s going for it - the sound is unmistakeable....  However, he probably wasn't going for it if you left him behind that fast.  I reckon upto 80/90mph an R32 would be slower - but only just - than a remapped GTI, but not much difference at top end.  As for a remapped Ed30, well thats another matter altogether
