thanks, mine arent too clear.

 in the hole under the rubber plug there is an allen key, that is slowly undoing. massive ball ache with the alternator belt on. But undoing that and the allen key i have circled should get this cover off? cant believe how long this is taking me!

meh cant find any clear piccys,     once the bung is out and the two 10mm nuts off teh top pritty sure it lifts off.     the later  covers  are held on with clips

cheers, i am only doing this by feel. which isnt making it much fun at all, off to buy a rachet i reckon.

once this f**king thing is off, how important is it that i put it  back on ?

well not feeling putting it back unless it is totally necessary.

phil - i've undone one of the allen key bolts beneath the bung. and the allen key that is circled. it has like a plastic surround and rubber washer beneath it.

i would put it back on

saves the timing belt if a stone fires up from the ground

i suspect you have removed a rubber bung and undone an allen screw from the tensioner

BUT i may be wrong as my car is a digifant not K jet

how far inside was the allen bolt ??

if it is the tensioner the body needs turning then the bolt tightening to tension the belt , just tightening the bolt back up may not work as the tensioner as it could have moved and then loosened

i just cant see very well on your pictures

thanks so far everyone.

feeling like giving in and taking it to a garage, as i cant afford to loose days to pratting about with something simple.

this is what i have undone.

It was under the bung on the timing belt cover.



the penny is for scale.

the allen key circled below. (6mm) is just turning and not getting any looser.



should this unscrew all of the way out?

the bolt  is the lower  fixing for the alternator iirc

Tis indeed, that defo doesnt need to come off.   On the side facing the chassis leg, there should be the two clips.  If all else fails, break it.  Just make sure you dont drop bits of plastic down the timing belt cover. Ben

wank, back in that goes then,

apparently mine doesnt have clips as its from 1984?

do you know why that circled allen key in the pic above, isnt unscrewing any further?
