HOW MUCH BHP IS ENOUGH?!!!
« on: 13 February 2009, 10:17 »
JUST NOTICED ON SUPERCHIPS SITE THEY NOW DO A STAGE 2 FOR ED30. 325 BHP!

YOU NEED THE EXHAUST & A PANEL AIR FILTER FITTED AND THEY WILL SEND YOU A NEW MAP.

It cant cope with 300bhp, so what is the point?

Well, mine copes easily with just under that at 299bhp !

The way the map deploys the power makes a huge difference.  Superchips older remap for the DSG Edition 30 is about 40bhp down on the newest version of the map at say 4000rpm ..... as they have upped the torque at lower revs for the newer map.

The newer map does require effectively warm conditions to deploy all the power ....otherwise it just spins up the wheels.  The older map puts the power down fine in colder weather - as it is only about 20bhp up on standard at that point and not 60bhp (with the newer map) and the car copes fine.

It is more about where the power is and how aggressively it is deployed than the max power output.  I went with Superchips as their delivery was, at the time, less aggressive than some other tuners.

I have tried, and have, the newer map .... but choose to keep the older one on the car at the moment until the weather gets better.   As I say, both maps have identical peak power but are very different elsewhere - and IMO that is what makes the difference, not the actual level of the peak power.

FWIW, what car other than 4wd puts 300bhp down well in the weather conditions we have had recently ?  None or not many I would think ....

Not at all... my Ed30 is making 360bhp and copes with no problem.  The Quaife LSD helps though

You must have an overly aggressive throttle setup if your 300bhp is too much. Our stage2+ is just as useable as stage1 but has around 50bhp more!

When I preferred the 'older' dsg remap they sent that to me along with the newest one and their stage 2 map (ready for if I bought a Milltek )

I still have the 'older' remap on as it is definitely easier in the colder conditions.  Come summer the quicker map is loaded into the Bluefin and ready ... yet to be honest I do like the "softer" torque map on it - which is still loads quicker than standard

All emailed for free so I can pick and choose as I want according to the conditions.

They can either load a different map onto their server .... and you use the Bluefin software on your computer to load it onto the Bluefin device which you then plug into the car to upload ....

OR

What they did with me - as I couldn't make my mind up between the old and the new maps ..... they effectively emailed me 2 different maps. I first had to email them the 'base' standard map from my device so they could correctly set up the 'new' maps.

I had to get the 'base' map off the Bluefin and onto my desktop then email it to them as an attachment .... Once done - in all of about 45 minutes -  they emailed me back the 2 revised maps.

I then use the Bluefin software I have on the computer to put one of the revised maps back onto the Bluefin device.  It is now ready to upload to the car.

It is not as difficult as my explanation probably sounds ... and means as I now have both maps on my computer desktop that I can choose between as I wish. If I want to change the map I just have to load it onto the Bluefin from my computer and then reflash the car

Each uprated map they send you also contains a copy of your original map with the original factory settings so that you can always reflash to your original standard no matter which uprated map is applied.

I've done it a couple of times and it's easy.
