coilovers are shock absorber and spring as 1 unit and are height adjustable on the car while dampers normally refer to just normal shock absorbers which give a fixed height (but adjustable stiffness is possible on some)

Yeah but cheap coils give a hard ride (more so when ultra low) and you can get adjustable coilovers too making the ride softer (ideal for an everyday car!) but they are £££

These are fk adjustable dampers, with springs added.

Are coilovers a better shock absorber?? and thats why they cost more.

I'm looking to lowering mine by about 40mm, partly for the look and partly for the handling. Dont know about you lot but mine isnt as flat round the corners as i'd like

standard springs arnt great, if you only wanna go down 40mm then i would go for the dampers as cheaper coilies give a harsh ride so if your an old foegy you wont like it,  but they corner like its on rails.

Do coilies tend to be stiffer than dampers? and would they show the bumps in the road more?

cheap coilovers let you feel EVERY bump in the road

guaranteed to rattle and shake your car to bare bones in no time at all!

unless you get adjustable dampening on your  (cheap) coilovers you're not going to get a smooth ride
