I don't agree with solid mounts. The original is supposed to absorb the shocks. If a solid one is in there, then the shock absorbing is done by something else that is not designed for it. That could lead to premature wear or a failure of a component. And that component could be the engine itself.

I think suspension plays a big part here. If you running a 40mm drop with the solid mount it shouldnt be too bad, but if you got hard coilovers wound all the way down... could be an issue!

I see where your coming from, but its not like the other two mounts are solid. Theres still a degree of flex in the rear and gearbox mounts, plus theres probably a negligable amount of twist in the cross member (which sits on flexi rubber bushes remember) .

Lets agree that a new mount is better than a shot mount, solid - bbm - hydraulic or whatever it is. The one I have now is SHOT!

My car is not lowered. Totally standard.

For me, they money is not they issue, if the mount cost 12 or 27 quid wont break the bank, for me what is important is that it is fixed. I have other cars, where parts are extremely expensive and tolerances for aftermarket parts are very small.... To put things in a perspective, the whole price of my G60 equals the price of the obligatory annual service on my Ferrari......................

As soon as I have my new mounts fitted I will chime in with my ''2 cents'' of experience and opinion :-)

solid frount mount  often leads to the bracket snaping  if drive hard and other mounts are poor
all the VW's have gone bar 1.

Agree alpine mike on this one.  My mate james had a solid front in his abf conversion, plus coilovers = lots of vibration at idle.  I have an ABF + solid mount (same as his, we both bought bbm) normal -40mm kit, = no vibration of any note at idle :)

I will mount a solid mount on a std. car, so I will see how it goes. The car does not see much use, but I guess if it makes the bracket break I will have to cross that bridge wwhen I get there. Im happy to take the chance.

as long as the other two mounts are good shoule be ok,   the frount crossmember is actualy mounted on rubber bushes anyway so still a bit of flex.    you don't want to be abel to rock the engine
