G60 Engine Mounts

Hi

I think my Engine / Gear mounts are shot. The car is a standard 90' Golf GTI G60


-Which mounts to buy?

-Ive heard that usually the front engine mount and the gear box mount go first, not the ''rear engine mounts''? Any comments on this?

- Are there 3 mounts in total (Engine front and rear / and 1 on the gearbox)?

-tips / hints / links to places where I can buy some mounts at a good price....?

1 rear engine
1 gearbox
1 frount mount

frount mount is common fail   ,  gearbox mounts aslo go quite often and both easy fix.   g60 rear engine mount is most expensive and most involved to change but not to bad.   but is most long lived

Cheers. Ive put in an order for a front engine mount and a gearbox mount. Ive also ordered the top mounts for the shock struts up front... Hope this will cure my little ''cluncking'' problem.

Your clunking problem will almost definately be the front mount. Easy to change. 1 hour should do it. I have just bought all three mounts for my 60. Will fit them when I take the engine out for an extensive service.

I had a clunking due to a broken gearbox mount causing the leg that supports the box, that bit that comes up and over, to constantly bang on the underside of teh chassis leg in the ibiza.. 1.3 gearbox mount is solid rubber and about £7 odd from memory

Great stuff. I have ordered all the mounts and will replace them.... Finger crossed for a significant improvement....

Ive already ordered. Solid it is, but I doubt its bbm....

i put a solid front mount when i fitted my G60, it hasnt seen too much of the open road yet so i cant comment, i have heard mixed opinions. some says its better to fit a solid front mount to stop engine movement and then helps if they is a 4 branch manifold fitted.

and then some say it makes the car rattle and vibrate, and the bolts in the mount can even shake loose?!

The one on my G' is great. Little bit of extra rattle but really not much, and makes the car feel far nicer and smoother. Mines basically identical to the bbm one you get from gwerks, but without the branding on it. Never had any problems with bolts coming loose and i do tend to drive it like i stole it.
