Question about Cigarette Light wiring
« on: 07 February 2009, 20:52 »
I need to take a live that goes on with the interior lights and the easiest spot for what I want seems to be the cigarette lighter. Is the cigarette lighter live all the time or only when turned on or how does it work?
Also, which workshop manual in the maintenance section would have the wiring info for it?

Its always live though isnt it?

Would the wire in the door or roof not be better as it will only be live when the door is open?

On my gti the lighter is only live with the ignition on.
Without traction power is nothing!

Also to clarify, I mean when the sidelights are on and the interior dials' lights turn on, not the spot lights.

I guess that's when you turn the key to position 2 - dash dials light up, interior lights, stereo all light up. Both cigarette and boot 12v are live from then too.
