I'm fairly new to the MK5 golf scene but I too considered the ED30 and the MK5 R32.

As mentioned before by someone, the fuel consumption did it for me but also the tax bracket difference.

I tried to weigh up the pro's and con's...

R32 DSG

- Another 20 bhp
- 4WD Traction
- £400 band "G" tax bracket (for models registered 23 Mar 2006 – 31 Jul 2008)
- Claimed 29 MPG
- 1538 KG

ED30 DSG

- £210 band "F" (for all models)
- Claimed 35 MPG
- 1376 KG

Seeing as I was using the car to get to work and back I choose the ED30.

interesting read

i like the package of the r32, but the gti/ed30 looks good too.

i've currently got an audi tt 225 coupe with a remap, so good for 260bhp+ and quattro and good looks ;-)

For me it looks like this (being a 55 plate)

R32 DSG

- Another 20 bhp
- 4WD Traction
- £210 tax
- Have got an actual 32mpg
- 1538 KG

ED30 DSG

- £210 tax
- Claimed 35 MPG
- 1376 KG

I went for the R32

Where did they find that much? My seats are probly pretty heavy, there must be a fair amount of difference from options such as 5 door, dsg, sunroof etc etc!
