Insurance should be about the same Toph as they are both group 18. Standard GTI is group 17

I must say I do love the sound and surefootedness of the MKV R32, but for me, I like the rawness and lightfootedness of the ED30 just as much and so wouldn't swap. If I'd bought the R32 I would have probably been just as happy.

It's the new list price that bumps insurance up. ED30 would've been about 85 quid a year cheaper to insure for me.

Strange that as when I enquired about both, the R32 was cheaper and then only by £25.

Must be 'cos |I'm an old fart or something. LOL.

Threadjack alert.....

Any decision on 'charging the R32 yet Toph?

I work in the construction industry so not a great time to be blowing all my savings :undecided:

And I found out that my GAP insurance is void if I make any modifications

Silver lining though - "only" 24 months to go on the loan/GAP, after which time I'll have a much better idea of how stable the moniez will be. Then I reckon I'll have 3 choices. Charge the R, get a new .:R mk6 if it impresses me, or RS4 cabrio and pretend to be a hairdresser like jv

Hi guys... went from a Mk4 4-Motion 2.8 to a ED30.

Had 4-Mo for 6-years, I’ve had ED30 for nearly a year and I’ve almost gelled with it... but I really loved the 4-Motion.

I do miss the V6 soundtrack, build quality and the four wheel drive.
I don’t miss the slightly lumpy handling (it felt heavy in comparision) and the fuel consumption.

Tried the mk5 R32 in both DSG & manual guise. Liked them both, but preferred the GTI/ED30 as it was slightly more nimble... more fun. Also I fancied a change... the doom & gloom which surrounded fuel prices/road tax also had an influence!

Everytime an R32 goes past I think... should I?

Have fun deciding, it’s tough they’re all great motors... Hotrod

Hurdy have you got a link (URL) to the Mk6 R pictures you have seen? I had a quick look on google but just seems to be Mk6 GTI.  I'm tempted on Mk5 R32 too at the moment but still wearing my "sensible" hat so just can't seem to make the jump

^^Cant wait, as much as I like my ED30 I sometimes wished it was AWD so I could nail it off the line. The .:R20 should be good for 330+ Bhp surely?

Would you recommend DSG over Manual aswel? Really fancy the quickfire gear changing...missed 3rd once or twice in the lights grand prix, felt like a right d1ck.
