Power loss at 2500 revs
« on: 01 February 2009, 19:08 »
At around 2-3000 revs i can feel a dip in boost then it makes the whoosh noise constant, more so than it did before.

I have noticed a difference in the sound, that being longer and also the minor power loss?

Going straight to the dealers tomorrow.

Sounds like it could be the cut off valve.  Part number is 06f 145 710 g.  If your car is 2005 or 2006 you may have the 06f 145 710 b version which was weak.  Suggest that the dealers look at this first.  (although i could be completely wrong)

Certainly sounds like the diverter valve. Vw have revised it again with the diaphram removed so high boost doesn't rip it anymore. I'm having it fitted on thursday as a precaution. £38 + vat

Is it usually Manual, DSG or both that split the turbo recirculation valve?

I have a theory.

I don't know if the transmission can affect it since it's boost pressure that would break the valve, right?
Not low enough mk5
Not on the road enough mk3

Hmmmmm - as others have said, it could well be your turbo cut off valve (aka divert valve or recirc valve).  However, being as you can actually notice an increase in the sound of "whoosh" noise - I would also be inclined to suggest that there may be a physical leak somewhere, which is allowing the boost pressure to actually vent to the atmosphere, rather than be "recircled" back to the low side of the turbo.

Get a Forge one, bit more money but should outlast the car (especially if you want to remap later on).

The nosh-meister has decent question for a change!

Honestly, though, I doubt there would be any kind of stats to support one or the other in standard tune.  Maybe the manuals might be more prone to damage the COV on highly tuned engines, but that may simply be a result of the torque handling limitations of the DSG.

I have a theory.

Welllll - share it then!  :nerd:

Yup, boost pressure - but don't forget temperatures too.  The higher the temperature, the less resistant the rubber is to damage.  Which is probably why the K04 turbos have the COV remotely located at the front of the engine, well away from any concentrated heat sources.
