I would also say to keep it. Sod the depreciation and enjoy what you have. Life is too short. At the end of the day, you cant take money to your grave!

Im looking for a GTI ED30, and am looking to spend around 15k, maybe 16k. Although most of the people I know think Im crazy spending that much on a car in the current climate, and that its best to stick with my smaller car for now, you only live once, right?

I say keep it. Keep it and enjoy it. Things always depreciate. Just dont look at used prices any more. Once I buy somet I try hard not to look at how much its worth later down the line, until I need to! lol I know the value of my house has fallen, but Ive not bothered getting a survey to see how much - its just depressing!

It's the slump.
A good way to cheer up is to log into the Mk2 section.
Almost every post is a moan about some part of a Mk2 falling off or failing.

Makes you glad you were able to buy a nice new Mk5 GTI when they made them.

And who knows if VW will ever release a Mk6 GTI?

From the top of the Mk2 section...

Since it has gone in my mk2 its now spluttering under acceleration. It starts and Idles fine and runs ok, just when you give it a few revs. Its like there's not enough fuel getting through?
Ive checked plugs and leads. lambda sensor is plugged in. fuel filter is fairly new. Any ideas

That's why you buy new.

Don't really think that's justification to buy new but each to our own!

The Mk6 GTi is being released in the summer

If you're the kind of dude that buys new and sells every 3 years then,...... Perhaps it's time to think errr well there's never a good to time to sell..... Especially to those robbin stealing barstewards with the shiney glassfronted empoiums of marketing flim flam.....

They're gettin' there's big time now .... Hang onto your car, unless you can afford to chuck your cash away, mk5 is a great car don't buy into the hype, drive it love it buck the trend.....make it a project car, get your remap stage 2, up rated brakes, intercooler, mods to your suspension, get a referral to vw racing and beef up the fuel delivery system but ffs don't get open fog grills ..... We don't want to lose another mod LOL ......or whatever caused the last wee handbag spat

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)
