how low on what wheels?
« on: 14 January 2009, 23:41 »
hello all from a newbe

i will be getting a golf gti hopefully this week or next week, the thing is i aint sure what size wheels to get or how low to go?

my first thought was 18's but some 19's have come up at a good price, whats your views on 18's and 19's apart from the price of rubber.lol
another one is how low can i go on each wheel size. i dont want it scraping the floor or arches but i dont want it in the clouds either just sitting nice over the wheel. i would prefer to use springs only(the cheaper option) ive seen 35mm and 40mm would this be enough?

thanx in advance for any advice

19's are too big IMO.  You're much better off going for 18's, and with a 40mm drop it'll look

18's, cheaper rubber and less road noise and better mpg
If you want go low 50mm should be fine, just go slow on speed bumps. you'll also want to upgraded the anti roll bar if you go this low
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

now thats what i call quick replys, cheers lads.

my plan to start with was 18s with the 35-40mm drop but as these 19's come at a good price might be worth getting em just to sell on

my last car was on 18's and really low, it looks really smart but jeez the ride is pretty poor and speedbumps you had to vitually stop and roll over em, the rubber was 215 35 though might of had a bit to do with it.

thats sorted then 18's with a 40mm drop   you say roll bar? would this be ok with this setup or would i need to replace?

thanx again

roll bar will be fine with the 40mm drop, its only when you get quite low such as 50-60 mm u need to replace it really

mines lowered 40mm on 18s rides perfectly and no problems, looks great aswell, as said earlier 19's are well too big and

sh!t to drive on

any pics?
does anything vary on the 3 door -5 door i.e springs the same?
sorry for these stupid sounding questions,  i would normally buy the car then ask questions some times a mistake though.
