where can i get a lightened flywheel??

hey all,

does any one know where can i get a lightened flywheel?? and whats the best weight to help turn my gti into a rev monster? cheers

Buy a new one and have a local machine shop lighten it for you to the specified weight I guess. Not sure what weights are good though...

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

Be wary of who you get to do this. I've seen pictures of a gearbox smashed asunder by flywheel shrapnel. Get a pro to do it.

would be nice to have it balanced too if you building a motor have the the whole lot done  :wink:
oh try hotgolf didnt get mine off him but im sure he dose them and would sort you out

when you go to get it balanced you need to take the crank and pressure plate as well

where are you? i have heard good things about basset down balancing  in swindon

ok cheers guys :) im on the isle of wight  :smiley: but the only problem living down here is every one thinks they can do every job and they all think the are a pro at it so i have to look off the island all the time to try and find some one who knows what they are talking about  :angry: im building a 2.1 liter 8v gti :) if any one has any ideas on what weight fly wheel would help turn it into a real rev monster? but it would also have to last more tahn a day with the power  :rolleyes: cheers

Are you using a cable-change gearbox, or rod change?

Makes a big difference.

I had my cable-change flywheel taken to 6kg from 9kg (IIRC) and it's still a fine drive.

There are *some* good people on the IOW.  Are you on IWEvoCars, Gareth?

Personally, I would not lighten a flywheel unless I had the crank out as well, so that they could be lightened and balanced as a matched pair. Ideally, the clutch pressure plate could be added too, but these things get changed with the clutch, so you could be 'building in' problems later.
