Colour Coding Wing Mirrors
« on: 15 June 2004, 14:27 »
Hello you lot ....

Being rather lazy here - I want to colour code my existing wing mirrors, but just the mirror and not the base plate or arm as found on the fatory colour coded examples you see. I've not looked in to pulling the mirror apart, and wondered if anyone had done this already??

Surely can't be that hard, right ???

the bodyshop just sprayed the lot on mine. I guess if you asked them to mask off those bits you didn't want sprayed they would. tidys up the door a lot too imo :)

Just buy a black golf, then they look fine as standard :)

Seperating the mirror from the base plate isn't possible as the hinge is pressed outwads like a rivit if you get me?  Unless you managed to bend the lip upright all the way round but you'll probably just bust it.

Just mask off the baseplate and the door and spray it, taking the mirror off is also a bit of a pain as you have to take the door card off so you can unhook the joystick thing.  Taking the glas out is a fiddly job too, you have to tilt the glass all the way down and get a thin screwdriver in there to unhook the clips.

Of course if you had electric mirrors like me it would simply be a case of unplugging the wires behind the adjuster... ;)
