I had a great drag race with a CTR in my Mk3 16v. He pulled out on me on the A51 going to Lichfield, so i slowed up behind him, waited for a safe opportunity then blatted past. This clearly pissed him off as he floored it straight afterwards and gave chase. I decided to ease off at one point (I was doing 95 ffs), the CTR didn't and overtook me. I dropped down a gear and stayed with him all the way to 120.

He clearly wasn't trying, as a CTR has 30% more power and 25% less weight. A properly driven CTR would crucify you mate.

But as for beaten? Well, lots and lots of PD150's for a start. They do always insist on trying (the 16v badge on the grille seems like their own personal red rag), and well, I do always insist on smacking them down with a quickness. It seems that low down torque diesel owners witter on and on about really is no substitute for good old fashioned power.

Lot and lots? Blimey, they must be popular where you live to have raced lots and lots of them. Remind me, how much power does a Mk3 16v make? 150bhp at my last count.  So, that would be the same as a PD 150 then. Therefore the torque of a PD is no substitute for power, because it already has as much as a mk3 16v. The difference is, the diesel throws out 75% more torque, which is why the in gear times of a PD are roughly half of what yours are.

Instead of just whining on about how your car is great and everyone elses is cack, try turning up to a meet once in a while. Lets face it, if what you're saying is true, you'll be the one with the smug grin on your face, right?

As for what I've beaten, well, you've all seen that yellow rocket car......
It might have 2000lb's of thrust, but its no substitute for good old fashioned bullsh1t

Not that i'm saying that diesel golfs are the be all and end all 'cos I have one (130pd) because they aint, but they do seem rather quick and to me seems as quick as my old Leon Cupra (180). Can't be arsed to race anymore but would feel pretty confident in passing or at least keeping up with a MKIII 16v. And you do get 550+ miles to the tank!! Still miss my Sierra Cossie though (but not the blue smoke it left behind).
 And what is a CTR?

 I did leave a Porsche Boxster S (3 weeks old)standing in a Royal Mail lorry at a set of lights in central London recently, mind you I had just smacked him up the arse and his motor was undrivable oops!
Type R's are quick but I think you have to work them quite hard though, but they are surely faster than a MKIII 16v aint they

I started this thread about a month ago and must say I am trully pissed off with the chav's around Cheltenham that wait to see a GTI ,GTE etc etc, then pull out catch you up them either pull aside you or rev like crazy behind you !!

I had one behind me revving, I could not be bothered (i feel i'm more chilled now) I moved off normally and he shot off an nipped my bumber he stopped i stopped, WAS I PISSED (now i know i shouldn't have done this - and i don't act like this, ) but I walked over to his car pulled him out of his seat and asked him " why the f**k do you want to race with every car you see ??" i'm just driving home you idiot theres no need!!.

Well to cut the story real short , His mate owns a garage, and sorted my bumper looks better then new!, I'm now friends with this (I still think he's a chav (a good chav)) and he has slowed down which is good.

BUT I in no way condone pulling people out of their cars it was stupid and wrong of me, if he had a gun i'd be on a laptop in heaven or he could have reported me to the police GBH !! He did understand though, why i was so angry and i got my bumper sorted so lesson learnt on both counts.

You have a martial arts background like me don't you deadlock ? It's a good thing the lad didn't take a swing at you, tempers are hard to control in those situations even if you're usually as calm as a hindu cow.

yep, but what makes it worst is that with a MA background, when you do something like that, you feel like you've let your whole club down and your training that you've done for years.

me and Rich blew away a S2000 with the 20v in the mk2 until the rear arch came loose again so we had to slow down
