I'm sure we've all made mistakes in the past, out of ignorance...........just hopefully not as expensive as this.  :o

And what about this bloke???

Polo Gearbox Filler Plug WARNING - Phil W   Thu 27 Mar 03 23:27

I have a VW Polo 1250 CL 1990 H reg. I wanted to check the gearbox oil level so I checked with the Haynes manual. It said there was a level plug and a drain plug but failed to describe where they were located and didn't give a photo or diagram. I therefore undid the most obvious candidate for the level plug - in a similar position to those on Vauxhall Cavaliers and Novas I have worked on in the past. A small amount of oil came out when it was removed so I assumed all was OK and replaced it. It seemed odd because it seemed to have a rod going into the gearbox but I assumed this was a scavenging magnet. I then found I was unable to select first or second gear and reverse was very stiff! I rang VW and they told me that there is another bolt on the front of the gearbox that looks like a level plug but actually supports the reverse shaft inside the gearbox! Apparently I'm by no means the first to make this mistake. They said the gearbox will need to come out and be repaired (?300+ at VW). Thats some mistake!
Why oh why does the Haynes Manual not warn about it when the consequences are so disasterous?
Has anyone else had to deal with this? Are there any tricks I can use to retrieve the situation without taking the box out?

I bet everyone would really want him to work on their cars!!!

LOL  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've had quite a few years experience with Mk1's, Audi's and more recently Mk2's but I would never pretend to be an expert..............I'm still learning.

Yep i know what ya mean, but being honest anyone who starts removing bolts from their gearbox without knowing what they are has to be a pretty big tit really.

Oh i hate that site. I look at it from time to time just to look at the ridiculous arguements they put on there and crap advice.

A bunch of complete nobjockeys but Mark RLBS is still THE biggest turd of all. What a power tripper. check this out from a post about radar detectors (which surprisingly the guy who was wanting to know which one to buy got slaughtered)  This is marks reply when a guy swore in his post and he removed the guys entire post because of it:

'There's one less now. Not much wrong with your opinions, but going that length to avoid the swear filter annoys me. Since I am not here all the time, I have to be careful who I leave in here unattended.

Your language is not welcome.

I should think that the effort of having to register a new e-mail account and using it to re-register here, assuming you bother, will help you remember that.

Mark.'

'Since I am not here all the time, I have to be careful who I leave in here unattended' WHAT???? You have to be friggin kidding me. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?? a teacher or something. this isnt some chat room for 5 year olds. This is a forum full of 40 yr old boring men. People swear in real life. get a grip turd. (well he probably already has the Wanka). WHAT A COMPLETE TOOL.

As he said, not much wrong with the guys opinion but he cut his thread out for swearing. Unbelievable.

Mark RLBS - YOU ARE A TIT.

I'm with you mate. they're both a nightmare. The guys are all for the anti speeding brigade but the minute anyone is for radar detectors and maybe using their own adult judgement they call it a rant against speeding and threaten to cut the thread.

I say someone signs up and puts in a troll post and see how funny it gets. They'll go mental with really poor arguements.

f*** em all. bunch of nobs.

They're advice is so bad as well. You;re right , your advice was great they'res is so general and stupid. my car would break down in 2 seconds and my insurance would be ?1000 if i followed they're advice.

And i still hate Mark RLBS - tit.

Oh you put a post on there thats really just to wind them up but sounds like its a genuine dumb question. they all think you're serious and go mental - highly amusing. Something like 'Can i change the gearing on my Golf Gti to pull over 140mph as i keep getting beaten on the motorway each morning by somebody in a Focus RS' and they'll go mental saying why do you need to do 140+ etc?

LOL good darts one and all, I used to write on the infamous honest john site and like most of you I was booted off, I was trying to explain to one of the senile old buffers that carb icing is actually not the be all and end all of all bad running on cars. But that put a spanner in the works, the old works. You could here them all saying in unison "We don't like change here."

Imagine them having a get together, a nurse having to go round and turn the pages on their haynes manuals whilst wiping their arses. Talking about the lastest wonderful euro sh!t box like the forementioned yaris, I bet the smell of stagnent urine would be overwhelming.

The only piece of engineering they have the knowledge to understand is a f**king stannah stairlift.
