Is This A Good Deal On Monzas
« on: 05 February 2009, 16:29 »
hi all, (again) been looking on fleabay for some 18" monzas for my 2006 gti and have spoken to a guy who has qouted me £520 for a full set of replicas in original looking diamond cut finish with darker grey inserts also included is the bolts and badges etc and they come with 225-40-18 kuhmo tyres on them £520 delivered to my door does this sound like a ok price and what would i get for my original 17s in good condition with good tyres on them roughly as this would soften the blow of the £520 lol cheers in advance MATT                      PS is there anything i should check or ask the guy about them before buying ???  :undecided:

You will probably get a much better response to this topic if you put it in the normal MK5 section - as opposed to the maintenance section...

I've only ever seen one set of reps in real life, and from afar you can't tell the difference, but when you get close you can spot that the centre caps do not sit flush, the spoke shape is ever so slightly different, and the outer lip has more of a protruding edge. But then you have to accept that they are reps I guess. Also your reps may be made by a different company to the ones that I saw..

I think you'd probably get away with it looking ok.

Not too sure regarding how good the price is, on the face of it, it seems ok.

I've seen standard 17's with tyres go for around £250-£350 on the forums - depending on condition!

stay away from replica monzas mate, save up for some genuine..

ive had 2 replica sets now and 1 genuine and you can tell the difference in looks and how they feel when you drive.

It's an economic decision, reps vary in quality and design.  You really need to do the homework on them.  That said, BBS have covered thierselves in shame over the Monzas. So many people have had white worm issues, they have hardly helped the case for genuine wheels, coupled with a very patchy response from VAG CS to owners, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth

If it were me,  I'd definitley stick to genuine Monza II's.

You could get 4 cheap ones off E-bay and get them fully refurbed to look like these beauties :

Expect to get around £300 for your 17"s  if they are in good nick and have good brand tyres & tread left

be very wary of sellers on ebay stating genuine vw wheels. Were it not for this forum and the timely advice of LaserBlue i would have been ripped off by ebay seller supersheen1. please be wary.  That said there are good copies out there and if you want copies cool, however i didn't and the ad was a misrepresentation. Ebay said sellers account was suspended, for how long is anyones guess.

full details in my earlier post if you want the full story....

Let the fun begin........Red Gti, full colour coding, DSG, Xenons, Winter pack, Lux pack, Highline, Sat Nav, Sunroof, Leather, Milltek, ABT rear valance, Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics....pescaras :-)
