To sell or not to sell?!?!?
« on: 16 December 2008, 20:26 »
After some online research I've noticed a bit of a gulf between Irish car prices and English ones, even when including conversion and extra charges. I know that the market is pretty bad right now but it seems that if I sell my car now and get a small loan that I could buy a second hand R32 from Northern Ireland . I'm really tempted to do this, but I don't know if I should. The jump in insurance price would be a bit of a problem, but damn I'm tempted!
What do you guys think?

A lot more car for a little more money is a no brainer for me. If you can afford to run it, go for it

Here's the car I was looking at:
http://search.autotrader.ie/www/cars_advert?country=IE&modelexact=1&make=Volkswagen&model=Golf&keywords=r32&min_pr=&max_pr=&min_year=&max_year=&source=&currency=EUR&county_list=&sort=20&SUBMIT.x=0&SUBMIT.y=0&id=200849191115349
I don't mind the silver bit on the bonnet (can always respray) and at around 17k€ I could get it IF I can sell my current mk5. Failing that there are 2 or 3 others around the 20k€ mark.
Here's what mk5s my year, engine size and around my mileage (I have roughly 20k on the clock) are going for at the moment:
http://www.carzone.ie/search/results?nParam=4294911096&cacheBuster=1229462802625973#nParam=351+200476+200394+200421+200290+200300+4294911096&sortby=Make|0
Stupidly high prices I know but this is an odd country. If I could get at least 15k€ I can make up the difference in a loan.
I don't know if I should risk it though  :undecided:

Damn well right you should get it - GO FOR IT ... the difference will be amazing and you won't regret it unless you default on the loan and they take it back from you

dont do it, the world is still in a mess and its only going to get worse, before it gets better, and having a loan is not something I'd wanna be lumbered with right now.
enjoy what you have if I were you.
