Oil question again for a 2.0 model
« on: 02 December 2008, 06:22 »
My handbook says 10W40 semi synthetic.  Yet a lot of people on here recommend 5W40 fully synthetic stuff, even for the 2.0 non-turbo variant.

In general what are the 2.0 drivers using?

Cheers.

I used 5W40 Castrol something or other in mine. Didnt have any problems at all with it. Idealy you want to be putting whats in there already which can be tricky to establish.

Make sure you buy a 5 litre oil as if you dont already know, you soon will, that 2.0 lump drinks more oil than petrol sometimes.

Some people recommend going to VW and giving them your reg.  Then they can tell you what oil is required for your engine.  Is that how you came about using 5W 30?
