16v Cold Starting Probs
« on: 20 November 2008, 09:04 »
Hiya all, when starting car in the morning it fires then dies, after several starting tries it chugs, stinks of fuel, then eventually clears itself and is good for rest of day, any suggestions?. so far it has had, new ecu and fuel pump relays, fuel filter, ecu temp sensor, inlet temp sensor, lamda probe, cleaned throttle body and isv. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Gary.

Crank Sensor ...

I changed all the stuff you did, but in the end it was the crank sensor on its way out ...

CHECK THE WIRE FOR THE CRANK SENSOR FIRST, CLEAN IT THOROUGHLY, AND USE A TORCH AND INSPECT IT FOR ANY CRACKS ETC ... even then! i'd change it.

Might wanna check the coil. Had this on mine for months. You need a multi meter to chheck the output resistance. My faulty one had a resistance reading of 2500 ohms. It should be closer to 4000 ohms. Also indicated by a yellow orange spark. it should be blue.

Map sensor

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAP_sensor

This will explain how it works much better than I can.
