VR6 or Newer engine?
« on: 16 November 2008, 17:23 »
Im looking to enhance the performance of my golf at the mo its got a 8v gti engine in it but i am thinking of changing the
engine to something i can tune for maximum BHP
would a VR6 or a 1.8 20valve turbo from a mrk4 be better to tune up?

1.8T 20V from a MK4 would be better to tune and will be lighter than the VR6 so will handle better.
Passat B5.5 2.3 V5 170, with all the extras.

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

It probably depends on wat you wanna spend mate! Id probably go for a 1.8t conversion though it will see decent gains from simple things like a remap!

1.8t find one from a tt for more fun extra bhp run 225bhp as standard compared to the 150bhp from a standard 1.8t in a golf. ill just stick to the vr for its sound n grunt.
