Porting and Polishing 8v
« on: 11 November 2008, 16:51 »
Is it worth it?

I have a spare head from an old engine I blew up.

Just wondering what I'd get out of it and if its easy enough to do myself? and if anyone knows any good sites they could link, it would be appreciated.

If it's alot of work, does anyone know the average cost if they have had it done themselves? (to the heads.. not ported and polished themself )

So far the car has a full custom exhaust system (not sure who by.. was on there when i bought the car) and its been chipped and remapped which was also done before i got it. Not bad for a £150 car :P

i bought a gti head off ebay for £16, bought a headgasket set from gsf for £37, 2 drill wire bits that cost £5, lapping tool and compound £5, and skim, £45. then the water flanges (cant rememebr the cost), all in all, it owes me about £130, and it aint even on the car! if your itenrested in buying it, let me know, we could cme to some sort of deal.

as i said. it owes me around £130.
you would need to buy the exhaust manifold studs (got these but its best to replace as ones i got are 20 years old and have seen better times) and a stud for the valve cover as theres one missing. also got the tappets, which ive cleaned and reconditioned so they wont have the tappety noise anymore, and valve cover, but its not in the best of conditions. if you buy it i will chuck in the water flanges (you also need to get the studs to attatch these) and i will also, chuck in the headgasket repair kit, comes with headgasket, valve cover gasket, inlet and exhaust gaskets, and various other bits. I have replaced valve stem oil seals aswell.

looking for around £120 + postage.

I am not taking responsibility if your engine blows up.

polished ports yes, not ported.
Ports are not over polished. still has the non smooth edges.
