Strange reply?
« on: 19 May 2004, 13:42 »
I put an advert for my car on a website last week and I had no response till today.
A dutch man who can bearly write english has offered me full price without even seeing a pic!!!
He wants to ship it to Holland as soon as.
Now my Dad has a Honda CBX (classic bike) and he has heard that some of the people in the CBX club have been done by a similar kind of thing. They ship the bike out then the check doesn't clear....D'oh >:(
I personally wouldn't move my car off the drive till the money was in my account, but my question is, has anybody else had this sort of email about their car for sale?
Detective Dave signing out. Peace ;D

just say to him that you will ship it when the cheque has cleared. if he wants the car first then say that you would prefer to sell it in this country cos less hassle so if he wants it its cash up front :)

to be honest i would have said sorry on the phone cos shipping a car abroad is a pain in the arse and i couldnt be bothered with it ;)

i've had a couple of those dodgy emails. very annoying when you want a genuine buyer to get in contact. I just ignored them as they never asked any questions about the particular car i'm selling which is very strange.

So they send cheques out hoping people will ship the car before you find out the cheque is dodgy. Thats the only way I can think the scam works. I suppose they send hundreds of emails and theres always one mug that falls for it. EVIL!!!

Apparently they use fake or stolen bankers cheques!!! :o
Most people would be ok with a bankers cheque though cos it's as good as money really.
Let's all just try to stay clear of these con men. ;)

Hiya Mate,

Like every1 says stay well clear i had the same thing.

A bloke (or somebody) from South Africa wanted to but my previous GTI8v mk2 he wanted me to send my bank details to him so his mate who owed him ?2000 in New York can pay 1500 straight into my account. The he would then arrange a collection to ship my car over seas to him in South Africa.

This was some one who wanted some photos sending too!!! and there was lots more....

Keep well clear it will only come back on your self.  ;)
