H1 bulb upgrade (pics attached)
« on: 19 November 2008, 16:17 »
I changed teh bulbs on my 96 mk3 16v, the lighting was a bit, well underwhelming. I was toying with HIDs but its just one step too far for me.

so these are from powerbulbs, Philips blue vision, there is even a discount code on Golfgti.co.uk, postage is included!!!

http://www.powerbulbs.com/product_detail.asp?prod=13

AND they threw in some matching 501 sidelamp upgrades free

good stuff, always wondered if they make a difference. Dont see a great difference tbh in the cockpit view pics, but certainly look whiter.

out last night and early this morning, there is certainly a whiter light, and more definition, not a huge difference in teh area lit up, but thats not an issue for city drivng, and I've rally bulbs in the main beams

Are they easy to fit and are the lights easily accessible?

How many do you need? Is it just the 2 cos I can never fathom out how many bulbs are required for each light i.e. main/side/dipped/full blah blah blah.  :embarassed:

Easy to fit, I am sure you need 4 x 448 and the sidelights are 501's.

yep. Its four main bulbs you need, two dipped two main. The price of the bulbs on the websight is excellent. Free postage too. Went to halfrauds to check out their bulb prices. Some are nearly 30 quid each

Also had Philips Blue Vision from the same site, made a world of difference to visibility. One important thing to note is though, that after fitting the bulbs, you should really adjust the headlight beam as its very sensitive and prone to moving from left to right!
