that 16v noise is addictive over 5k revs , I got constantly shouted at by the other half when we went for drives in  Derbyshire.

Apparently , just because you can overtake it doesn't mean you should .

wahooo i have test drivern 2 8vs and 1 16v i drove the 8v 1st and i was like this is niiiiiiice and quite quick didnt want to rag it as it was a test drive  drove another 8v that felt the same really and i drove a 16v last nice and the 16v deffo feels quicker low down it feels like the 8v but after the revs build up  it really gets going and keeps going and going and going where the 8v needed a gear change, both nice cars to drive also the 16 sounds reallly nice when opend up.
Broom Broom! I love my valver to bits but have owned an 8v and that was awesome too. In short theres no answer, if i could i would have both. There, thats it sorted, you need to have both then you will always be happy. End of!

totaly agree its not just about the engine the main thing is having a mint mk2 gti if you want just plain out performance theres other cars faster than the mk2 golf for the same price.. i would prefer a 16v but if i find a mint 8v 1st thats what i will be buying.

i do a 60 mile round trip 5 days a week in my 8v through twisty's and i agree its easier to drive and gives the all important smile factor, my best mate has a 16v and i leave him at traffic lights everytime..he works in the same place as me and won't take his 16v it drinks too much fuel and its up and down the gear box alot.

His 16v is knackered. Or he's driving like a girl.
