As for mods, no mods for a minimum of another ten months!

if in a spot of trouble ive tended to use the gearbox to slow down....i know not a good idea as gearboxes are more expensive than breaks!

....I always work down the gearbox simply to be constantly in an appropriate gear to match speed. In other words to be able to slow or accelerate instantly if needed. Modern engine braking is less 'powerful' than it used to be - Once upon a time brakes were so bad that engine braking was essential!! I'm reminded of trying to stop several tons of 1940's Rover downhill entering a town on drum brakes!

One of my driver training courses has taught me to use the gears even more than I used to. DSG gearboxes are potentially much longer lasting than Manuals as they have built-in self-protective mechanisms as opposed to suffering human misuse. [in my opinion!]

I've done this when needing to slow down rapidly but not emergency stop. I'll shift down the gears to second whilst the brakes are applied continuously. I also try and avoid the need for it.

What I'm still trying to learn is the best shift points for each gear so when I downshift, I match the revs. I did ask about it in another thread but no one answered!

R/R is bang on, there is no point having a 200-300bhp fast road car and not know how to use it safely/properly.You have to drive to the road conditions, slow in fast out, look through the corner to the exit, smooth with go pedal and with the brake.
