My Alternator has gone..
« on: 18 October 2008, 16:19 »
Hey guys and girls,

While driving my alternator has decided to die on my Golf 2.0 GTi. Not fun whlie on the middle lane of the M3. Been looking around and getting quotes and the average seems about £250 - 300ish.  Would you this is good?

Also someone said that it might just be that the brushes might need to be replaced and that would sort out the problem, which would save me alot of money.

Any ideas?

Adam

you can recon them by replacing the bushes, but stilll have the labour implications because you still have to remove it, better off getting a recon exchange as you can do the job in one hit then otherwise your waiting for it to be repaired, £250 is about right if including labour
