tune up

im trying to breathe the former life back into the old girl so far i have changed plugs oil oil filter fuel filter dizzy cap rotor arm cambelt power steering pump and pump lines alternator belt power steering belt cleaned air filter and k jet and think ive sorted the timing so as you can see ive done a fair chunk how ever im not happy that she aint running to well ive found to conections into the same wire unplugged laying next to the air box but cant for the life of me find were they plug in  also she some times struggels to start also MFA saying im averaging between 8.4 and 11.3 miles to the gallon what else could i do i cant afford an engine conversion so i want as much as posible from the 1.8 kr so any tips hints would be great

Your MFA is probably lying about the MPG. The air hose connection behind the clocks is probably split.

As for the two connections near the airbox, that sounds like its for your lights - are the front fogs working etc? If not, I would check the connection to the overrun cutoff valve and the pressure control valve, which is the only other thing I can think of near there.


In terms of general performance, next I would check your leads are in very good condition with no grey arcing deposits, then check your plugs are the correct spec and screwed in properly, then re-check your timing. Timing is critical.

After that you might consider a wet and dry compression test.

thanks for the advice i will have another look at these things my fogs are not in the car at the min but i thought the fogs were the 3 pin connectors sat down near the lights theses look like spade connectors will do timing again aswell to be sure
