Temp Sender....?
« on: 25 September 2008, 08:32 »
I have read on a few old posts that a Bad Temp Sender can result in poor throttle response, bad idling and it also controls the furl mixture.

Just wanted to ask whether this is correct for a 16V Kr engine? As on those threads it states its Blue, I bought a Temp Sender from VW yesterday costing £21 and its black with just a blue ring around it with a rubber washer.

The other thing where is it located, am I right thinking near the water flange?

Thanks

doesnt sound like any kr sensor I know of?  the kr sensors are the 3 on the side of the block with a single spade fitting, thread into the side of the head and have a copper washer. They're for the dash gauge, ISV controller and the ignition control unit (sometimes called the ECU) all 3 are the same rating and have a black collar.  You may have bought an aircon sensor?

If you suspect you have sensor failure warm the engine up then swap the red/yel wire (dash coolant temp) to the other 2 sensors on the side of the head, and check the dash gauge.  If either of the other 2 reads significantly different to the rest you have found a faulty sensor.  To confirm swap the wire from the faulty sensor and plug it into the dash gauge sensor and drive it, if it makes a difference buy a new sensor!

Not to hand but it'll become obvious when you look! theres a 2 pin sensor which is for the 5th injector, leave that alone.  There are 3 single pin sensors around the coolant flange on the side of the engine, with red/yellow (dash temp gauge), white/blue (ecu) and red/green (isv controller) wires.  All 3 sensors as I say are the same rating so you can mix n match how you like, if the one they sold you doesnt look like that its the wrong one, I'm pretty sure they sold you an aircon thermal switch which goes in the flange on the side of the head (aircon models got a different flange with a sensor fitting in it)
