Tickover, on my 1.8 16v

I'v used the search on the forum and the the closest thing i can find is this, but it doesn't really help.

What tickover revs is normal for a Mk2 8v??  Mine idles at 750rpm, and feels ever so slightly lumpy.  Also, when I am driving and I put my foot on the clutch the revs drop really low (almost cutting out) and then it seems to rev it a bit itself then it will settle at 750.  Is this normal??

And the only thing i'v done since this has happened was sprayed some Degreaser & jet washed the engine afterward, but i was careful not to put the nozzle to close to various parts on the engine, I put the car in the garage after letting it warm up to evaporate some of the water and since then i haven't started it up till today.

And normally when it starts it revs to 1500rpm then drops to 1100rpm till it warms up then drops to 850-900rpm, but today it just rev-ed to 1100-1300rpm and dropped right down and just cut out. so i started it up agent,  keep my foot on the throttle till it warmed up and it just ticked over at 600rpm and sounded really lumpy.

I'v adjusted the idle screw and its sorted it out. But i just Don't understand why its was OK 2 days ago and to day it just done that



Any one got any thought to this, or had a simeler thing happen??

sounds like water gone into the spark plug/ spark lead gap in the rocker cover.

pull them out and spark plugs...dry everything and then try.

Thank for the help.
I had a look again today and found that the wire to the temp sender was off.
reconnected and it was running as it should, i must of got to close to it with the jet was

Hehe, this made me laugh.  Er, I would probably have linked the problem with having sprayed water at high pressure all over the engine bay.  LOL

I did turn the power down to halfway, any thing less then that and i may as well have been using a watering can

I forgot to mention, if you've fiddled with the idle, you might want to reset it again now that the temp sender is reconncted as even though the idle might appear be at the right level, the ISV might be having to compensate for a high default setting on the idle screw. To do this, disconnect the ISV circuit at the coil (its a red wire on mine) and then reset your idle  - See the full guide in the maintenance section.
